Discover the Path to Faster Healing and Active Living: Your Guide to Physical Therapy for Knee Injuries
Are you struggling with a knee injury? Physical therapy can be a crucial step toward faster healing and maintaining an active lifestyle. Knee injuries can stem from various causes, such as meniscus tears, ACL tears, arthritis, cartilage inflammation, muscle degeneration, or knee replacement.
Physical therapy is beneficial both before and after surgery. Before surgery, it helps identify the root cause of the knee injury and prepares you for a successful procedure with an individualized plan. After surgery, it aids in recovery, helping you regain strength, range of motion, and balance.
For meniscus tears, physical therapy focuses on reducing inflammation, improving range of motion, and strengthening knee muscles for stability. Similarly, for ACL tears, therapy aims to restore leg strength and motion, reduce swelling, and improve balance. Arthritis sufferers can benefit from pain reduction and improved mobility through tailored exercises.
In cases of cartilage inflammation, physical therapy targets reducing swelling and pain while improving motion and muscle strength. For degenerated muscles, therapy focuses on reducing pain and improving function, with exercises to enhance strength and balance.
Post-knee replacement, physical therapy is essential for recovery, assisting in regaining strength, range of motion, and balance.
Dealing with a knee injury? Physical therapy can be key to recovery and maintaining an active lifestyle, offering personalized plans tailored to your specific needs.

Dr. Charles Taunt
Dr. Taunt, a knee surgeon, was inspired to become a doctor after seeing his grandfather struggle with a knee issue due to gunshot wounds suffered in World War 2. He committed to becoming a knee surgeon at a young age and finds the most rewarding patients to be those with the worst knee problems. His practice focuses on the treatment of knee and hip arthritis. He encourages patients to maintain a healthy weight, exercise, eat a nutritious diet, and stay active. When non-surgical treatments fail, he offers medication, injections, and surgery when necessary to improve the patient’s life and reduce their pain.
When it comes to difficult diagnoses, Dr. Taunt has found that an honest, detailed discussion with the patient is crucial. He helps them understand their problem and its severity, as well as their options. Then, he creates a detailed plan and executes it very carefully. He stays up to date on the latest medical research and treatment methods through teaching orthopedic surgery residents, reading new medical research, attending national seminars, and working on an international committee designing a new knee replacement product.
Dr. Taunt advises patients to listen to all their healthcare providers and follow through on their recommendations to improve their health. He warns his patients about the biases and marketing found on the internet and encourages them to trust reliable sources such as the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons or the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Dr. Taunt believes it’s essential to inform every member of the healthcare team of the diagnosis and treatment goals, including physical therapists, to provide the best possible care for patients.
